1. Ohio State

The defending champs make their debut in the top spot. The Buckeyes are breaking into league play full steam ahead. They smoked the Golden Gophers to the tune of 42-3 in dominating fashion. Receivers keep breaking out for OSU as Carnell Tate (4th in the B1G) hit for 9 catches and 163 yards. Stops were the name of the game as the Buckeyes had ten third-down stops to kill Minnesota’s momentum all game. The show goes on the road to the upstart Illinois Fighting Illini this week.

The undefeated Red Raiders jump all over Houston to knock them off the charts and from the land of the unbeatens. They dominated on the defensive side of the ball, holding the Cougs to 11 points, which in line with their season average. Takeaways swung in their favor at 3:1, keeping the offense on the field. David Bailey, Sr. LB and one of the top pass rushers in the conference, caused havoc with 2 sacks and one forced fumble. Speaking of averages, Tech nearly matched the offensive output with 552 total yards. An evening kick versus Kansas is next on the slate for the tortilla-tossing Texans.

The Cougars enter our rankings this week propelled off a win over West Virginia on a Friday night. The offense was fueled by a big game by Chase Roberts (395 yds, 5th in the Big 12), who had 161 yards on 4 catches. They are tops in the conference in total and passing yards at 451 and 234, respectively. Defensively, they are only allowing 244 yards and 12 points per game. This goes a long way in the high-paced conference. BYU will travel to Arizona this week looking to avoid a letdown.
